Hobart Apartment -
Mixed Residential Typology.
This mixed use, residential/commercial hybrid building is a framework (ruin) that promotes symbiotic overlap between the urban and suburban. Proposed on the site of an existing caryard - an ethical ruin of sorts - a typology that no longer aligns with the evolving needs and expectations of the community within the context of the urban environment, becomes the foundation for a positive housing future.
The project proposes the delivery of high amenity apartments and communal spaces for residents, desirable public amenity through public gardens, retail tenancies, a supermarket, and parking, as well as providing rewilding for an important shoulder on the periphery of the Hobart CBD (re-linking the urban environment back to the rivulet and associated parkland further west).
As the issue of housing becomes more prevalent and dire around the world, the development of better modes of habitation within all sorts of built environments becomes ever more important. This project looks at merely one typology that could respond to this need in a positive way.
